Japan has a long history of unique arts and highly skilled crafts many of which are slowly being lost or neglected.
Our family has long been involved in several of these and we have watched as more and more multi generational families of skilled artist and craft people no longer have a next generation to pass their skill and artistry on to!
Our family alone cannot replace or take over for all these artists and craft people so along with help from many others we have decided to save as many past creations as possible!
We have learned and are still learning aspects of many craft and skills and those we do not know we ask friends and other skilled masters for help!
In some cases it is as simple as saving a piece of pottery or ceramic ware from the garbage bin, in others it is a long, hard and dirty rescue!
We do not “restore” we “RESCUE” by this we mean we do not bring these items back to their original state when new , we stabilise the items using methods as close to those originally used to create them, leaving as much of the age and patina as possible!
At first we rescued pieces brought to us by people wanting to save an old family heirloom but now it has become an obsession and a race against time to save as much as we can before it is to late!
We now realise the only way we can save as many things as possible it to offer some of these items we save to those outside Japan ,who we hope will appreciate the skills, time and dedication the original artist or crafts person put into them!
We hope you will enjoy for many years these unique pieces of Japan and the history behind them and understand each scratch, nick, faded colour are all signs of a long well used life and the fact they still exist is a testament to the skills and dedication of their creators!
